Kobenstyle. It's like Gangnam Style but for middle class white people.

Maybe it's the influx of chilly weather or my inner bitch coming out again (she replenishes her strength in the Fall), but I've been cold on shopping for decor lately.

It's probably the fact that I had a come-to-Jeezus moment with my bank account and realized I need to stop spending money like the middle class circa 2006.  I think my credit card probably has a few IKE-Rah holdovers from my patio redo this Spring and I'm not even going to think about how I should have put that money towards paying off kitchen bills.

I'm not even allowing myself with half a mile of a junk mall.  This is partially because I spent all my money at the Ann Taylor Loft while on vacation.  I can't even get excited about the Zara home debut that other bloggers seem to have lost their shit over.  Partially because it looks like Horchow's cheap cousin...?

I've never been in a Zara but somehow I expected it to be kinda classy but maybe it's classy in the way that Z Gallerie is classy?  I don't know, enlightened people let me know.  And let me know where in Atlanta that I can go and shop.  To make up my own mind...

But lemme tell you about one of the few things I've seen this summer that I'm (and the rest of Pinterest) actually excited about: Kobenstyle.

Crate and Barrel, bringer of your favorite vintage kitchen dreams back to life again, has reproduced the original Dansk Kobenstyle enamelware from 1956.
I squee so damn hard.  And not just because it appeals to the vintage Danish pinup model that's trapped inside me, thoughtful design makes me lusty.

Sorry about that tablecloth.

Look how you can use the lid as a trivet!  Fuck, that's hawt.

here
The lid also works for stacking like these adorable vintage ones pictured above.  I think that paella pan in the middle is smiling right at me.

And in other thoughtful design details, the handles are fancy stay-cool handles which I'm surprised they even had the technology for back in the 20th century.  I bet NASA had to help with that or something.

I'm so tickled about the Kobenstyle because I can offer personal testimony to how great they are.  I have a vintage casserole in chocolate brown that I bought a junk store (shedding a tear for junk stores right now - miss you, guys!) for $15 and I've loved it.  I bypass my glass pyrex casseroles for it every single time.  Granted, almost everything is probably better than the Pyrex casseroles I got from Kmart when I moved to college but still.  I'm saying I'd be willing to pay up to $25 or even $30 for one of these suckers.

Yeah, I'm serious.

Right now C&B is only offering red, white and black in 2 sizes of the pots, the casserole and the butter warmer but that seems like a fair selection if you don't like rainbows but love butter.
Because I can't tell you how many times I've needed to melt butter.  In a pan.  On the stove.  And had no way to make that happen.

The only downside is that C&B is offering these bad boys for a jizzillion dollars!  Or upwards of $100 for each piece.  Excuse me - $40 for a butter warmer which my brain tells me is like $100 for a butter warmer because it's a butter warmer.

Butter warmer.

But you can do what smart people do and go to Ebay where I found some near-mint condition options for you for less than half the price of the C&B version.  You're welcome.

Like red and casseroles but don't have $120?  Try this beauty.

Think red is just for whores and college football?  Go for the white one that's 25-fucking-dollars!

Shit, I want to buy that one.

And there's plenty of the the pots too - I just didn't find any in as mint condition as my saucy readers deserve.  However this set is pretty damn awesome:

Both for the starting bid of $60.  Buy it now for $85 if you're Mrs. MoneyVag which is still like 15% of C&B's price.  I don't know - I'm better at casserole dishes than math.

I also think I might be better at blue than white, black and whore red.

  1. You had to show me this, didn't you. I desperately need new cookware, and I'm totally squeeing hard over this collection. I too am in the mist of a financial reconfiguration and really should be avoiding even looking at this stuff. As for Zara home... Meh.

    1. I share the good shit. Definitely spend a few minutes on ebay or etsy - you can find pieces in really good condition at a fraction of the cost. Good luck, fellow poor friend!

Glad I'm not the only one not going crazy over Zara.

  2. What Ebarchdesign said. My 1960's kitchen needs this stuff. If it comes in avacado green it's over. Good call on etsy and e-bay....my work day just got a little less productive ;)

  5. Dear blog friends,
I hate you. I need something new to obsess about like I need a hole in the head. I was fine with it being a billion dollars because then I could never think about it ever. Now I have a new search to save on ebay, because that shit is sexy and I use my Pyrex casserole cookware EVERY WEEK. Ugh.

    1. Dear Ish,

You're gonna toss that Pyrex to the curb like a used, dirty whore. I don't know if people actually do that to whores but it seems legit.

      Signed,

      Your blog friend

  7. Hello, regarding zara home, if the use their same originality than the one they use for their clothes line .... then you will find cheaper imitation of most expensive brands. Some years ago in spain there was a blog called "Devil wears Zara" and they used to pair the designer clothes next to the cheaper imitations that Zara had "created". Here is the link, it's in spanish but funny to watch, then thy move to vogue.es and the included other brands that enjoy copying ideas.

    1. That's hysterical! I know many lower-priced places get "inspiration" from others but not quite so blatant! Thanks for sending that.
